Celebrity baby name meanings

Celebrity parents have been giving their babies not-so-common baby names. Included in the list are Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes who named their baby girl Suri.

Then there is Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt who named their baby daughter Shiloh Nouvel and their twins Vivienne and Knox.

Gwen Stefani also joined the ranks when she named her son Zuma Nesta Rock. But, what do these names mean? Are they made up names or do they really exist?

SURI – The name of Tom Cruise’s baby girl means red rose. The origin of the name is Persian. Both he and his wife claim that the name means ‘princess’, which they derived from Sara. However, experts claim that the derivation is not likely.

SHILOH NOUVEL – Pitt and Jolie welcomed their baby girl a few years ago and they gave her the name Shiloh Nouvel. Shiloh means ‘gift’, ‘his gift’ or ‘he who was sent’. Nouvel on the other hand means ‘New’ it is French in origin.

ZUMA NESTA ROCK – Gwen Stefani and husband Gavin Rossdale recently welcomed their new baby boy. They named his Zuma Nesta Rock Stefani. Zuma is Aztec in origin and means ‘Lord Frowns in Anger’. Nest on the other hand is Welsh in origin and means pure.

Last, but not least Rock is English in origin and may mean the actual rock, the form of music or it could mean something sturdy to lean on.
